Event Planner?

I am in the process of planning my wedding and have been blindsided by the friends and vendors that have seen my detailed floorplans and color designs, who tell me I should do event planning for a living.

Design has always been a true passion of mine, and my gears have been working overtime thinking of the business aspects of the profession.

What does a typical event planner do, or charge?

Can anyone who works the industry tell me what is expected when being an event planner? I don’t want to be at the beckon call of, say, a bridezilla (working out her dress details, organizing her rehearsal dinner and hair appointments, etc…).

I just want to design, scope out locations, and possibly handle the purchasing of items to complete the look.

Any suggestions on what to offer and how much to charge?

How much should a private event planner charge per hour?

In the past I have done corporate work with pro teams and I have also worked as a private wedding planner in Southern California. I am planning on working private holiday parties, club openings, birthday parties and so on, but due to the diversity on my services I think I should charge by the hour opposed to offering packages.
