Event Planner?
shani asked:
I am in the process of planning my wedding and have been blindsided by the friends and vendors that have seen my detailed floorplans and color designs, who tell me I should do event planning for a living.
Design has always been a true passion of mine, and my gears have been working overtime thinking of the business aspects of the profession.
What does a typical event planner do, or charge?
Can anyone who works the industry tell me what is expected when being an event planner? I don’t want to be at the beckon call of, say, a bridezilla (working out her dress details, organizing her rehearsal dinner and hair appointments, etc…).
I just want to design, scope out locations, and possibly handle the purchasing of items to complete the look.
Any suggestions on what to offer and how much to charge?

What should I major in?
cindyw0814 asked:
So I decided I am going back to school in january! I want to become an Event Planner but my college does not offer event planning as a major. What could I major in that would help give me experience in that field? I was thinking along the lines of Public Relations but I’m not sure if that would help.

What are the best ways to advertise for an Event Planner?
Just wondering asked:
I’m new to this profession and somewhat new to the area of central Florida. I only know of one other event planner in town, so there’s not much competition. Any ideas on how to advertise with a small budget?
Thanks.

How to become an Event Planner?
Big Frank asked:
I am trying to help my wife with her career. She is a communications major with emphasis on Event Planning. How do you get that career started? Must you take and internship first or can you be hired with no real experience? Other than just Wedding Coordinators what types of places have an Event Planner as a hired position, and where can we look for them?

How much should a private event planner charge per hour?
Ethereal asked:
I am in the process of starting my own private event planning company in colorado and I am not sure how much I should charge for my services. In the past I have done corporate work with pro teams and I have also worked as a private wedding planner in Southern California. I am planning on working private holiday parties, club openings, birthday parties and so on, but due to the diversity on my services I think I should charge by the hour opposed to offering packages. What is a good hourly rate for a private event planner with experience?

Wedding planners please answer. If you can relate, please answer?
sunnydayz asked:
I am currently thinking about becoming a wedding coordinator and special events planner. I go to school now and I am majoring in Fashion Merchandising, but I’ve been thinking about attending Sheffield school to get special training in wedding and event planning while I took a semester off of regular school. I was wondering if anyone has ever gotten training from an online school that specializes in this field. A school such as Sheffield, or Penn Foster. Do you think it is worth while? Is it better for me to just finish my bachelors and try to get an apprenticeship with someone?
