I am interested in becoming a wedding planner, what steps should I take?

memigen asked:

I am interested in becoming a wedding planner. I love organizing, decorating, can be very “hands on” and think this may be the feild for me. I am undecided though and wanted to intern for or work with a planner in my area, and recently found there aren’t any. I am in college now working on a degree in business.
What other steps should I take to become a wedding planner or decide if this is the profession for me?

I would adore a few event or wedding planners/coordinators to answer also (if possible).

Thanks in advance for your help! = )

Well you know what I’m also thinking about becoming a wedding planner. so far from what I know you have to be certified and have a certificate for being a wedding planner try doing it at Penn Foster School is a home course you take.
    good luck girl.

Hello! I am a photographer and not a planner but there is one resource that I know of that you might be interested. The Association of Bridal Consultants has a home study course, seminars, and monthly meetings of local chapters. I think that it would be a great resource. Their website is . Other than that you can contact planners in your area to see if they have any suggestions. It would be better to first ask them if they know any good resources to learn the basics instead of asking them just to tell you everything they know (not that you are doing that). I hope that helps!

there are lots of online courses. its good to have some type of back ground information and the courses below can help. Study the industry and learn the “ins” and “outs”. It sounds to me like you are more a designer than a planner, which is great. You can do more than just give advice. It will help you make more money if you design & decorated yourself.

    Good luck
