   It helps to have formal training. But in the meantime, find an organization you can volunteer with, or a catering firm you can intern with. You definitely need practical experience in this field before someone will pay you money to plan your event. You may also find you don’t like having to deal with the sometimes demanding, a lot of times unrealistic expectations of clients.
