do your hoework - find out how much demand there is for event planners, how much they make, how the demand is growing.make pie charts, complicated projetion figures. u can still go to college , maybe specialize in business and start your own event company.
omgosh this is the job i want to do! Approach the subject cautiously AFTER doing lots of research. This job isn’t easy, it’s very corporate and requires lots of hard work, dedication and organisation. Just imagine if you were at the top of this career, helping to organise..i dunno, famous things - the olympics! - not by yourself of course:P! You could study anything really to get into this but what about psychology. It’s very different to engineering but doesn’t mean it’s bad. Tell them your ambitions are higher, and you’re determined to get the the top - moreso because it’s a career you’re passionate about.
as long as you’re happy with your decision, your parents shouldn’t be disappointed in you. i would suggest a bit more “general” major, ie: public relations. tell them that there are a lot of options with that degree, and you can mention that you think event planning would be a good fit for you. just be calm and mature about it. i really don’t think they’ll be as disappointed as you think.
